Local History Talk "Our Early Ancestors" 23/10/2009

To celebrate the recent reopening of Ballymoney Museum, over the next few months, local historian S Alex Blair presents a series of talks which looks at the history of North Antrim from earliest times to the present day – a story which is illustrated by the Museum’s collection.

The series opens on Thursday 29 October with “Our Early Ancestors” which looks at the first inhabitants of North Antrim and their life-styles ranging from the Stone Age through to the Celts, Vikings and Normans - all who have left so many traces of their presence. We will learn how Ballymoney began at Enagh Cross, called Paradise by a Celtic bard, and how Christianity made its impact on the area. A wide-ranging and comprehensive survey, this talk will give us interesting insights into these remote times.

The series continues on Wednesday 25 November with “Planters and Rebels” and concludes on Thursday 10 December with “Progress and Prosperity”.

All talks begin at 8pm in Ballymoney Town Hall and admission £2 includes refreshments. Promoted by Ballymoney Borough Arts Committee in conjunction with Ballymoney Museum.
