A meeting between Community Association Representatives, Ballymoney Borough Council Officers, the PSNI and Ballymoney Community Safety Partnership took place at the Joey Dunlop Leisure Centre on Thursday 25th September 2008 to discuss the incident at the Ballymoney Borough Council, Community Sport, Midnight Soccer League on Friday 12th September 2008.
Subsequent to this meeting Council Officers met on Tuesday 30th September 2008 to consider the points raised by Community Representatives and further discuss the next steps for the Midnight Soccer League, which was due to conclude on Friday 3rd October 2008. Decision was taken to suspend the Midnight Soccer League activities for 2008 with the proposal of reconvening the league in February 2009.
In response to the incident Council have drafted a series of short, medium and long term improvements, aimed at addressing the concerns raised by Community Association Representatives. These improvements which include further staff training and compulsory good relations training for all participants are to be implemented prior to the proposed re-launch of the league in February 2009. Ballymoney Borough Council would like to thank those community volunteers who work tirelessly to give young people access to projects such as Midnight Soccer and assure all involved that we will continue to work at bringing young people from different cultures and communities together through sport.
