Bin Collections

Ballymoney Borough Council operates an alternate week bin collection, using blue bins for mixed dry recyclable waste, brown bins for organic (garden) waste and black/grey bins for remaining waste which cannot be recycled, reused or composted.  Blue and black bins are available to every household while brown bins are available to households in built up areas.  Householders are encouraged to use bins in conjunction with household recycling centres and community recycling centres.

Please remember:

1. To leave your bin out for collection by 8.00am;
2. All collections are fortnightly. To receive a collection calendar please contact 028 2766 0257;
3. To put material suitable for your blue/brown bin in loose and not in bin liners or plastic bags;
4. If you put the wrong materials in your bin it may be rejected;
5. Food waste is not acceptable in  your blue/brown bin;
6. If you move house do not take your blue/brown bin with you.

Thank you for your co-operation.

How to maximise your blue bin

Since 2004 householders in Ballymoney have been able to put a number of materials in blue bins.  This has been highly successful and in response to repeated requests about expanding the range of materials collected, we are now able to accept a greatly increased range of materials.  Please see the Blue Bin download within the Bin Collections information above or contact Borough Services on 028 2766 0257 for more advice.

It's Brown Bin Time!

Householders can once again be able to take advantage of the highly convenient brown bin system in Ballymoney as collections begin after the winter break.  Brown bin collections resume on either the week commencing Monday 4th April or Monday 11th April 2011 (householders should refer to the letter issued in October 2010 regarding resumption of service in 2011 or contact 028 2766 0257).

To make it easier to manage, materials should not be placed in plastic bags and food waste should not be included. Unfortunately, due to damage caused to bin lorries in the past, soil and stones should never be included.

Declan Donnelly, Ballymoney Borough Council commented:
‘Brown bins have been very well received by the community since their introduction.  We are delighted with the response from householders and both the quantity and quality of material we are able to recycle through brown bin collections remains very high.’

Collection calendars are also available from Riada House and can be a useful reminder, given that some householders will have brown bins collected on a different day to their other bins.

Householders are reminded that facilities also exist at Knock Road & Crosstagherty Household Recycling Centres for recycling larger quantities of green waste.  From 1st April, The Knock Road Household Recycling Centre will be open for extended summer hours to again facilitate householders.  Both Household Recycling Centres deal with a large range of recyclable materials.

If there are any questions on brown bins or other waste management issues, please contact Borough Services on 028 2766 0257.
