Other EU Programmes
As well as Local Economic Development (supported by the Building Sustainable Prosperity Programme) Ballymoney also benefits from other EU programmes and initiatives.
The EU Programme for Peace and Reconciliation in Northern Ireland and the Border Counties of Ireland 2000-2006 is supported by the European Regional Development Fund and the European Social Fund to the value of 425 million euro (£274m).
The Interreg III A and Leader + programmes are special forms of financial assistance from the EU Structural Funds. They have three particular features:
- Encouraging transnational, cross-border and interregional co-operation.
- Increased involvement of people on the ground (" bottom up" approach).
- Support through a real partnership of those involved in the Community initiatives.
