Environmental Protection considers the prevention and control of environmental pollution with particular reference to air and noise. Areas of work include the investigation of complaints, e.g. noise, abandoned vehicles, etc. monitoring and operating air monitoring equipment, authorising prescribed industrial processes under the Industrial Pollution Control (Northern Ireland) Order 1997, and responding to consultations from the planning service.
Northern Group Systems have produced guidance to assist in the preparation and review of land contamination reports, required as part of the planning application process.
The purpose of this document is to provide guidance for those parties conducting the desk study, site investigation, remediation, validation activities and writing technical reports in order, that all potential unacceptable risks to human health are addressed.

Work will shortly begin to identify potentially contaminated sites within the Borough of Ballymoney. Where Planning Service consult the Borough Council on the development of brownfield sites, the guidance in the document will be used to frame the Council's response.
