The Council has a statutory role in the enforcement of the Dogs (Northern Ireland) Order 1983. The dog control service is responsible for issues including dog licensing, stray dogs, barking dogs and dog attacks. Stray dogs are impounded at the council dog kennels located at Knock Road, Ballymoney. In instances where stray dogs cannot be returned to their owners every effort is made by the service to find the dogs suitable homes.

Free Microchipping at Dogs Trust Microchipping Roadshow 23 - 28 March 2015
Dogs Trust, in partnership with Ballymoney Borough Council, is hosting a Microchipping Roadshow in March. This follows the success of previous roadshows. To date over 1,500 dogs have been microchipped at these events since the first one was organised in January 2012. The roadshow, alongside the valuable microchipping work undertaken by local veterinary practices, allows owners to licence their dog in accordance with the amended dog licensing requirements introduced in April 2012.
Microchipping has a number of benefits. These include the return of stray pets directly to their owner, a deterrent to dog theft and the identification of dogs in emergency situations.
The roadshow will be visiting the Borough from Monday 23rd to Saturday 28th March. Owners will be able to get their dog microchipped and registered free of charge thus potentially saving up to £30. The whole process takes less than five minutes and a member of Dogs Trust staff is on hand to give advice.
