Deaths

These can be effected by visiting the Registrar’s Office either in the district in which the death occurred or the district in which the person lived.

Deaths must be registered by law as soon as possible after the death, but no later than five days from the date of occurrence, except where the death has been referred to the Coroner.

Once the registration is complete, the Registrar will issue the following forms:

  • GRO 21 - permits the burial or cremation to take place
  • Form 36/ BD8 - for production to Social Security Offices regarding benefits
  • Certified Copies - may be needed to claim Insurance, deal with business matters etc.

These may be purchased from the Registrar at the time of registration for the reduced fee of £6.00.
