Consumer Safety

Under the Consumer Protection Act 1987 various Regulations have been made which impose safety requirements for a wide range of consumer goods. The aim of this legislation is to protect consumers against the supply of dangerous goods which are intended for private use. In addition to responding to consumer complaints, the department carries out inspections of premises to ensure that goods on sale are safe. Consumer goods may be sampled and tested in house or sent to approved test houses for examination to ensure they meet the required standards of safety.
