Borough Services
The work of the Borough Services Directorate encompasses key facets of everyone's quality of life locally. It provides waste collection and recycling, waste minimisation and disposal, street cleansing and litter control services, parks and open spaces, children's play areas, tourism facilities, access to the countryside, building maintenance and grounds maintenance, land and property portfolio.
The department is responsible for food control, health and safety, consumer protection, air quality, noise control, nuisance abatement, home safety and dog control.
It is also responsible for the administration and enforcement of regulations relating to construction of new buildings including alteration, extension to use of existing buildings. Among areas they consider are stability, fire safety, efficiency and facilities for disabled people. It also deals with inspection of dangerous structures, naming of streets and postal numbering of buildings.
It also co-ordinates the Council's Sustainable Development responsibilities and deals with administration and enforcement of the Council's many licensing functions.
